Funny Weather

So on Monday it snowed. Kinda weird and unexpected. It was beautiful, I loved watching it from the many windows of the house where I work. Staying warm inside all day, cuddling a baby as we listen to music, I love my job. Of course, there are trying moments, which sometimes last longer than I'd like. But overall, I do love it and am glad to be here.
On Tuesday the sun shone brightly and by afternoon almost all the snow had melted. Yesterday it snowed again, continuing through the night. This afternoon it got up to about 60 degrees, with sunshine beckoning me outside for a walk and my daily dose of Vitamin D. I went, along with my charge, all bundled up in her jogging stroller. The snow has now melted. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

My favorite room of the house

While there are many parts of this house that I love, my favorite is the "Conservatory".
It is located next to the formal dining room and living room. There are windows on three sides of the spacious room. A few plants are in there already, I think the plan is to eventually bring in more. Besides the lovely view of trees, water, sky, and a couple neighbor's houses, what draws me to this room is that it's the perfect spot to exercise! A treadmill, a few weights, along with a monitor, dvd and stereo are in there. I started P90X, an extreme home fitness program, the day after I moved here. I was a little nervous of where I'd end up playing the dvds and doing the workouts, hoping I wouldn't be in anyone's way or interfere with their TV schedule. My first introduction to the conservatory during my tour of the house filled me with appreciation and relief, knowing that it'd be an ideal workout location. I'm looking forward to running, swimming, hiking, biking, and possibly backpacking when the weather warms up. I heard there's a pool close by, and some fantastic trails.
Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow!

New Experiences

Experiencing something for the first time is a fascinating, yet often intimidating thing for me.
This adventure I embarked on a week and a half ago, moving to the East Coast to nanny, has felt like one big "first time" moment. I've already felt the pang of homesickness, felt like I might not be able to handle everything I'll be faced with, longed for the comfort of the familiar-feelings I often face whenever I get out of my comfort zone. Yet along with those come a great sense of excitement, an ever-present reminder and motivation to seek and rely on my Heavenly Father, and a gratefulness that I've been given this opportunity to LIVE.

My first weekend here I spent time with the family I work for, getting to know them and their baby, trying to make friends with their dogs, settling into my living quarters, learning about my new neighborhood and the surrounding area, searched for nearby churches online, and enjoyed the sunny weather.
There's so much I want to communicate, but I'll leave some of the details for personal interaction with you via phone/e-mail/facebook. Feel free to ask me any questions.

My second weekend I took the train to Philadelphia to visit my sister and brother-in-law. It was wonderful being with them and seeing the sights down there. I haven't seen New York City up close and personal yet, but stopped in the station there for about an hour, en route to Philadelphia. I experienced a little taste of the crowds, business, and culture of the city, I think.

Right now I'm in the Philadelphia station, waiting for my train back to New York. My train leaves soon, so that's all for now. Thanks for reading.
